Hi, I’m Joel Messenger, a young cancer awareness advocate and aspiring inspirational content creator from a small village in Donegal, Ireland. I was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) at 19, and it changed everything. What started as sharing my story to cope turned into something much bigger — now I reach up to 800,000 people a month across my platforms, building community and starting real conversations around cancer, recovery, and the mental health struggles that often get ignored. Before I got sick, my dream was to join the Navy.
I was in the process of working towards that goal when I was diagnosed — everything changed overnight. Losing that path was one of the hardest parts of my journey. But, over time, I realised I could still serve in a different way — by using my story to help others. I may not have made it to the Navy, but I’ve found a new purpose in raising awareness, building community, and making an impact through honesty and connection.
I know how isolating a diagnosis can feel, especially as a young person. I didn’t have someone to relate to when I was in hospital — so now, I’m trying to be that person for someone else.
As an ambassador for The Triple C (Cancer Care Community) I’m using my platform to raise awareness, break the stigma, and advocate for early support and honest mental health conversations around serious illness. My goal is to help others feel seen, supported and less alone.
To me, this isn’t just about cancer — it’s about connection, courage, and showing people that hope isn’t weakness — it’s fuel!
